# Communities

Communities are the organizational units in Likwid. Each community represents a group with shared governance needs.

## What is a Community?

A community in Likwid can represent:
- An open source project
- A civic organization or NGO
- A political movement or party
- A professional association
- A federated network of local chapters

## Community Structure

### Members
- **Admin** - Full control over community settings
- **Moderator** - Can moderate content and manage proposals
- **Member** - Can participate, vote, and create proposals
- **Observer** - Read-only access (in some configurations)

### Settings
Each community can configure:
- Default voting method
- Delegation rules
- Proposal requirements
- Moderation policies

## Joining a Community

1. Navigate to the community page
2. Click **Join Community**
3. Wait for approval if required
4. Start participating!

## Creating a Community

If enabled on your instance:
1. Go to **Communities** → **Create Community**
2. Provide:
   - Name and slug (URL identifier)
   - Description
   - Initial settings
3. Invite founding members

## Community Governance

Each community manages its own:
- **Proposals** - Decisions to be made
- **Delegation networks** - Trust relationships
- **Moderation log** - Transparent action history
- **Voting methods** - How decisions are made

## Leaving a Community

You can leave a community at any time:
1. Go to the community page
2. Click **Leave Community**
3. Confirm your choice

Your past votes remain recorded but anonymized.
